Rivers: Three feared dead as tanker explosion rocks Port Harcourt
Three persons were feared dead after a Liquified Petroleum Gas, LPG, tanker exploded at the Obiri-Ikwerre Fly-over, in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the incident happened around 9:30 am on Tuesday.
An eyewitness said the tanker was on high speed, lost balance and fell on a taxi.
He claimed three persons in the vehicle were burnt to death.
Residents around the area said they felt an earth tremor, thinking a dynamite had exploded.
One of them said, “My husband told me to lay on the floor incase it is a dynamite. Our house was shaking.”
The Federal Fire Service arrived the scene later to reduce the impact of the explosion.
Operatives of the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, were seen at the scene of the incident as motorists struggled with a traffic gridlock in the area.
The Sector Commander of the Rivers State Command of the FRSC, Christopher Kuje, has blamed the accident that led to the explosion on “over speeding”.
