AFWN X Sterling Bank 2024: A Spectacle of Creativity and Culture

The 10th Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) 2024, in collaboration with Sterling Bank, took place recently at the Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, featuring three days of fashion, culture, and creativity. The event was a showcase of African royalty and creativity, with designers, fashion editors, and royal personalities from across Africa in attendance.

The event commenced with a summit themed: African fashion and its economic impact on Art, Music, Film and Tech. It brought together industry experts, thought leaders, and creatives to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the African fashion industry.

The highlight of the event was the Emerging Designers Competition, which was won by Adesua Ella Impens of Lambert Fashion. The winner received a Staycation at KAP Academy, courtesy of Sterling Bank, and an all-expense-paid trip to showcase at Africa Fashion Week London 2025.

Sterling Bank’s partnership with AFWN demonstrates its commitment to supporting Nigerian businesses and the economy. The AFWN, founded in 2014, has become a premier platform for emerging African designers, offering a global platform to showcase their work. The event celebrates African heritage and champions the continent’s dynamic influence on the world stage.

The AFWN 2024 featured collections from young emerging designers, with support from established designers such as Ade Bakare, Trish O Couture, and Ejiro Amos Tafiri. The event was a spectacle of creativity and royalty, with three days of fashion shows, exhibitions, and competitions.

The prestigious event was graced by esteemed royal dignitaries, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Chief Abiola Dosumu, Erelu Kuti of Lagos. Other notable attendees included Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrazak, wife of the Kwara State Governor, Toke Benson, Lagos Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, and several other distinguished guests.

It was a vibrant celebration of Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, featuring captivating traditional displays, mesmerizing masquerade dancers, and the iconic Eyo masquerade of Lagos.

The event was not only a showcase of creativity, royalty, but also of the vast opportunities in the African fashion industry.
It provided a platform for emerging designers to showcase their work, while also highlighting the economic impact of African fashion on other sectors. The collaboration between Sterling Bank and AFWN is no doubt a step in the right direction towards supporting the growth and development of the African fashion industry.
