Africa Fashion Week London 2024 Gets Boost from Lagos Government
As Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) 2024 approaches, the organisers are pleased to share that the Lagos State Government has joined as official sponsors and partners for this year’s event. This partnership marks an important development for AFWL and the African fashion sector, said Queen Ronke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, who founded Africa Fashion Week London 14 years ago.
According to Queen Ronke, Lagos is more than just a city; it’s a hub of creativity, innovation, and style. “Our fashion industry is thriving, showcasing African talent and aesthetics to the world,” she says. From bustling markets like Balogun, Allen, and Tejuosho to high-end boutiques in Victoria Island and Ikoyi, Lagos offers a diverse shopping experience.
She noted that the vibrant city of Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city and Africa’s fashion capital, has hosted various fashion events, and their support for AFWL is quite laudable. “Lagos State is leading fashion tourism destination in Africa, with their support, we can unlock our full potential and showcase African and Nigerian creativity and style to a much more global stage.”
Queen Ronke also announced that this year’s event, taking place on October 11-12 at the Kensington and Chelsea Event Centre, promises to be a spectacular affair, even bigger and better than before. Mrs. Toke Benson Awoyinka, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, will represent the Lagos Government and will deliver the keynote address at the event, setting the tone for an incredible two-day event of fashion and culture extravaganza.
